THE CHANGING SITE

With excellent public transport connections and easy access to local shops, services and employment, we are proposing to open up the 2.5-acre site for the first time in over a century, delivering new homes, public spaces and connections.

    • For over 125 years, the site has been home to Moorfields Eye Hospital and is now ready to start a new chapter.
    • The site was contracted to be sold in 2022, with proceeds going to the NHS to fund the new Moorfields and UCL Centre for Eye Health in St Pancras.
    • As Moorfields prepares to relocate to its new home in St Pancras in Summer 2027, there is now an opportunity to shape a new future for this historic, well-connected site in Islington.

    Moorfields’ move

    From 2027, Moorfields Eye Hospital,
the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and Moorfields Eye Charity will relocate to the new Moorfields and UCL Centre for Eye Health in St Pancras. The move to a modern, purpose-built facility has been enabled by the sale of the City Road site and will allow these services to deliver the highest-quality eye care, research and education.
